Music Recording & Production

Island Recording Studios, Adelaide's top-rated Recording Studio (over 100 5-star Google reviews), offers full production and recording services for your music. If you have a basic demo - or just a mental picture of the overall sound or vibe that you'd like - we can take that and bring it to life, layer by layer. We work with you to bring your musical dreams into reality! This is something that we absolutely love doing and we're fortunate enough to have the best team around to help you achieve your goals. From song writing to writing and arranging each instrument part to recording those parts - we have you covered. We've produced music for artists across the globe and we'd love to produce something for you too!

Or if you're in a band and already have your parts down pat and just need to record them in the best way possible - look no further! Huge drum sounds, big bass tones, guitars oozing with vibe and attitude, epic keys and beyond.

We can also arrange short sessions to record individual tracks for a composite project - whether you'd like to lay down some vocals in our dedicated vocal booth or take advantage of our premium range of microphones and outboard gear to capture certain instruments.

Editing

Whether you have standalone editing that you need assistance with to help those tracks slot properly into your project, or you need some editing in conjunction with our other services, we have you covered!

Our team can deliver full editing and alignment for any instrument or vocal part, with expertise in smooth drum/percussion editing and vocal tuning. We use the top tools in the world such as Celemony Melodyne 5 Studio and SynchroArts Vocalign Ultra

These days, the average listener has become accustomed to hearing perfectly edited tracks, especially in any pop-related genre. If there is something that is out of time or out of tune in a song, it will stick out like a sore thumb when put side by side with other songs of a similar genre on the radio.

Key examples of editing include:

  • Vocal tuning

  • Vocal alignment - ensuring backing vocals are tight with lead vocals

  • Drum editing - making sure the groove is tight without losing the human feel

  • Instrumental alignment

Mixing

Island Studios is one of the best Mixing Studios around. Our mixing services are highly sought after by artists who want a no-compromise mix that is truly world-class.

Our mixing service is delivered by our head engineer, Joseph Cheek, who has mixed music from all around the world and won't stop until you are absolutely stoked with your mixes!

When mixing, we will look at options for EQ, Compression, Parallel Processing, Saturation, Automation, Delay, Reverb, and of course balancing levels and panning tracks so everything sits right where you need it to.

Mixing is carried out on our hybrid analogue-digital setup - ensuring your music will be overflowing with the natural richness of analogue audio, while making it easy to recall and tweak things if needed.

All of our mixing services come with a set number of revisions to make sure you're fully satisfied with the results. We also love having you in to make those final tweaks and finish off the mixes together.

If you can't make it in though, our online mix revision systems that we have in place make it super easy for you to leave feedback and achieve the results that you're after from anywhere in the world!

Mastering

Often mastering can be a confusing concept for artists who are new to music production and recording. Here's a simple explanation of what mastering is and what it achieves:

Mastering is the final step of audio post-production. The purpose of mastering is to balance sonic elements of a stereo mix and optimise playback across all systems and media formats. Traditionally, mastering is done using tools like equalization, compression, limiting and stereo enhancement.

There are several considerations in this process: unifying the sound of a record, maintaining consistency across an album, and preparing for distribution.

Essentially mastering is the icing on top of the cake that is your mix! When done well it can enhance the overall cake and really bring the "flavour" to life. However, if the cake isn't great, mastering won't fix the underlying problems in the recording or mix. It will only help it as much as is possible. Alternately, poor mastering can ruin quickly ruin weeks or months of hard work that you've put into recording and mixing, therefore it is crucial that you choose a mastering engineer wisely.

At Island Studios we offer competitive mastering rates for individual tracks or entire albums with guaranteed first-class results. (Just see our reviews!) Using our state-of-the-art gear we will produce a harmonically-balanced, dynamic master of your music, optimising it for release and distribution. We'll also consult you to ensure the mastering process meets your needs, and assist you with DDP creation that we can send straight to the printers for you or a master disc burn if required.

Music Distribution & Promotion Services

For the past 3 years, we've held monthly Music Distribution & Marketing 101 sessions in the studio. In these sessions, held in the studio, we go through the essential basics of what you need to know and need to do before you can successfully launch your music and give it the best chance of being heard by as many people as possible!

We've combined our years of experience in releasing music, to save you all the hours, days, and months of googling and trial and error that we've gone through so that you can get straight onto the essentials and ultimately spend more time on your music!

Now we've taken it a step further and turned this into a more comprehensive online course, through our dedicated artist support platform - The Indie Launchpad. Read more here about what the course entails
