Your songs, brought into focus.
You’ve put yourself into these recordings. Your mix should bring out what makes them yours: the energy, the emotion and the details you care about.
At Island Recording Studios, we mix and master pop, indie and rock for artists around the world. Whether you’ve recorded at home or in another studio, we’ll work with you to shape a sound you’re excited to release.

A Studio Mix, Wherever You Record
A mix that serves your song
Some songs need a vocal that feels close enough to touch. Others need guitars that fill the speakers, drums that drive the chorus, or enough space for a quiet performance to hold your attention.
We work on balance, tone, dynamics and movement with the whole song in mind. The aim is to bring its strongest moments forward while keeping the character that made you want to record it in the first place.
Your rough mix and references help us understand what matters to you. Tell us what you love, what isn’t working yet, and which parts of the performance you want to protect.

Meet your mixing team
Your mix will be handled by either Joseph Cheek or Tom Wormald. Joseph, Island’s owner and head engineer, reviews every mix before mastering and handles the mastering stage himself.
We’re based in Adelaide, Australia, and work with artists wherever they record. You’ll have a clear way to share your ideas, ask questions and respond to the mix throughout the project.
Our hybrid analogue and digital setup gives us different ways to shape a record. We choose the tools around the music and the sound we’re working towards.

From your rough mix to the finished record
We’ll listen before quoting, agree on the scope and keep your feedback at the centre of the process.
1. Share your music and direction
Start with a rough mix or demo and a little about your project. Tell us your genre, what you’re aiming for and send a few references if you have them. We’ll listen, discuss the fit and provide a proposal before you send the full session.
2. Get your tracks ready
Once the scope is agreed, we’ll explain how to prepare your files. Our Mix Preparation Guide walks you through the handover. If editing, tuning or another production step needs attention, we’ll discuss it before mixing so you know what’s involved.
3. Listen, respond and refine
Hear the mix and tell us how it feels. Our online review system lets you leave timestamped comments, so you can point to the exact lyric, drum fill or transition you’d like us to revisit. Each mix includes three revisions to work through your feedback.
4. Approve the mix and prepare for release
When you’re happy with the mix, it’s ready for mastering. If mastering is included in your project, Joseph will refine the finished mix and prepare the agreed release files. We’ll confirm the deliverables for your project in the proposal.
You might be wondering...
Mixing, mastering or both?
Mixing brings the separate vocal and instrument tracks together. It shapes how the parts balance, interact and move through the song.
Mastering works on the finished stereo mix. It refines its overall tone, dynamics and level, and helps an EP or album feel consistent from track to track.
If you already have a mix you love, ask us about mastering. If you’re unsure which stage your recordings need, send a rough mix and we can talk it through.
A few things you might be wondering
Can we work together if I’m overseas?
Yes. You can send your recordings and references online, then listen and share feedback through our purpose-built review system. You don’t need to travel to Adelaide to work with us.
Can you mix recordings made at home?
Yes. Send us a rough mix so we can hear what you have, along with a reference track so we can see the vision you have. The recordings set the starting point, and we’ll be honest about anything that needs attention before mixing. We can also help you work out the next step if the project isn’t quite ready to send to us.
What should I send to get started?
A rough mix or demo, a short description of the project and a few reference tracks are a useful starting point. You don’t need to prepare the full multitrack handover just to enquire; we’ll explain that once the project is agreed.
How many revisions are included?
Each mix includes three revisions. You’ll share your notes through our purpose-built mix feedback system, with timestamped comments that let you point to the exact moments you’d like us to revisit. Keeping the feedback in one place helps make communication clear and transparent throughout the revision process.
What will it cost, and when can we start?
Tell us about your genre, how many songs you have, what stage the recordings are at and when you’re hoping to release them. We’ll discuss the scope, availability and quote before you commit, including whether you need mixing, mastering or both.
What files will I receive?
We’ll agree on the final deliverables as part of your proposal. Tell us how you plan to release the music and whether you need any additional versions, so those requirements can be included in the scope.
Let’s hear what you’re working on
Tell us about your music, where the recordings are at and what you want the finished record to feel like. We’ll listen, talk through the next step and put together a quote for your project.
